What is a first look and why you should have one?

A first look is a modern tradition when a couple sees each other before their wedding ceremony. It’s a private moment for the couple away from friends and family. There are so many reasons why this new tradition may be right for you.

1. It calms the nerves you may have

Before this day you’ve spent every single important day with your person. Being away from them may make you more nervous than walking down the aisle. I know for me seeing my soon to be husband alone, without a crowd of people calmed me enough that going into the ceremony was easy. I still walked down the aisle with my dad (mom too) and still couldn’t keep my eyes off my soon to be husband, and the same goes for him.

2. It gives more time to capture portraits

You can get so much done before the ceremony this way! Most of the couple portraits, the bridal party, and in most cases some of the family photos. This means all that is standing between you and your party is family/group photos and golden hour photos of the two of you!

3. It makes it so you can get to your reception quicker

Having most of the images done before means you get to go to your cocktail hour and ENJOY yourselves.

4. You get some alone time

Trust me, your wedding day will be a blur, having these few minutes to yourselves will be all the difference. I’ll try to encourage you to take some time during your reception to go off by yourselves for a few minutes too.

5. The feelings don’t go away

The feeling of seeing each other at the end of the aisle doesn’t go away just because of a first look. I’ve seen many couples still get tears in their eyes during the ceremony even if they’ve had a first look.
